Lyrical

Length of Classes:  Lyrical classes are 1 hour long.  A 45 min technique class is required to go along with this class.

Class Attire:  leotard or tight-fitting shirt, shorts or leggings. No bare midriffs - shorts must be long enough to keep things covered when bending over - no tank tops.  

Shoes Needed:  Lyrical sandals purchased through the studio

 

How are classes run: Classes are split into 3 parts:  1- Stretching 2 – across the floor/technique  3 – learning of dances

   We have 3 levels of classes - Beginner (new to lyrical) - Intermediate (1- 2  years of ballet/lyrical experience required) - Advanced (3+ years dance experience required.

 

How many dances will you learn: The dancers will learn 4 dances in all.  Two learned in the fall and two learned in the spring.

How many performances are there: In December they perform both dances at a winter recital.  In the spring our big spring recital in May.  

Costume Info: Costume for the winter performances is all red, short sleeved leotard, tan tights, white skirt, hair all up in bun with hairpiece.  All of which is purchased from Becky’s Dance Co.  The Costume for spring performances will be ordered to go with our spring recital theme and costume fees will pay for it. 

What they need to know - class requirements:

BEGINNING - Basic ballet terms & be able to do them well.  For example: all ballet positions with proper arm placement, arabesque, passe, plies - basic and grande, releve, tondue, jete, demi, battement

INTERMEDIATE - all listed above plus glissade, pirouette, pas de chat,  prep into a turn, assemble, chaine, coupe, chasse, pique, battement

 

ADVANCED -  all the above plus single turns, good flexibility, good timing, rolls on ground, leaps, jumps
